Learn to code with Python. Create a mini-robot with micro: bit and race to the finish against your friends. In this week-long summer camp, students will learn to code with the powerful language of Python and apply their coding skills through physical computing with micro:bit. Whether students are just starting out or have been tinkering with coding already, we will challenge them to innovate, create, and problem solve.
South Hills is excited to provide additional STEM camp opportunities for teens. Our new Python Coding Camps are designed to capture the attention of teen students and provide easy to understand bridges to what coding is and what it is used for. Combining Python coding with micro:bit physical computing enables students to experience computer output in a fun way.
The beginner and intermediate levels will allow a motivated camper to continue into a second week of coding fun. Having the kits with instructions for dozens of other projects will allow for continued growth long after camp is over.
Classes meet from 10:00AM–2:00PM.

Code, Make, Compete!
Learn to code with Python, create projects, including a mini robot, with micro:bit, and race to the finish against your friends!
In these week-long summer camps, students will learn to code with the powerful language of Python and apply their coding skills through physical computing with micro:bit. Whether students are just starting out or have been tinkering with coding already, we will challenge them to innovate, create, and problem solve.
Give students an introduction to coding with Python.
Based on experience (beginner or intermediate) students will learn through either block-based programming or text-based programming.
Give students an introduction to physical computing with micro:bit.
Students will have the opportunity to apply their coding skills by completing physical computing projects with micro:bit.
Provide an opportunity for students to continue learning beyond the camp.
Students will be given a starter kit for the camp that they will be able to take home with them. Throughout the camp, students will gain a great foundation of knowledge in both coding with Python and physical computing with micro:bit that they can then take with them beyond the camp to apply to more
projects.
Beginner vs. Intermediate:
We will ask students to use their best judgement on their level of experience in coding and/or physical computing. There will be a separate camp for each level.
